Pre-Treatment

EU legislation demands that waste materials must be pre-treated to reduce the use of landfills and to increase recovery and recycling.

Pre-treated waste is material that has been subjected to a physical, thermal, chemical or biological process that changes the characteristics of the waste to:

  • Reduce its volume
  • Reduce its hazardous nature
  • Facilitate its handling
  • Enhance its recovery

We can help customers comply with this legislation through our regular waste collection and recycling services for waste that has been sorted at source, such as dedicated waste cardboard collections.  Alternatively, we can sort untreated waste at one of our Material Recycling Facilities (MRF), diverting waste materials from landfill and promoting re-use in the local, national and global market place.
